DRESS REHEARSAL WEEKEND NEWSLETTER

Hello Nutcracker Families,

We have arrived at the last weekend of rehearsals!!  Here are some important reminders heading into this Dress Rehearsal weekend.

THANK YOU
I want to personally thank everyone who has worked so hard this season to make our production possible.  A special thank you to our SCYDA board for all your efforts behind the scene, in particular Kelly Greenfield, our president for EVERYTHING she does behind the scenes all season long. xo

Massive Thank you to all the families & dancers for your commitment and dedication these past 14 weeks.  All your hard work has not gone unnoticed and I am so thankful for the opportunity to work with you all this season

HUGE thank you to our teams of coaches, Chelsea, Shantaya & Barbara for all your hard work behind the scenes getting the dancers ready at rehearsals,  We are so privileged to have you on our Nutcracker team.

HAIR & MAKE UP
Dress rehearsals run like a show.   Full hair and make up is required for all performers.  This allows us to ensure everyone is ready for show day and to access any lighting issues (face shadowing, etc).   For info & tips on hair and make up, please visit our SHOW INFO page on the Nutcracker website here: Show Info

REMINDERS FOR PRE TEEN & TEEN DANCERS
Arrive on time & come prepared
A reminder to show up on time and prepared to warm up.  This means you have hair and make up done before you arrive.
Warm ups will be led by coaches and guest artists at each rehearsal & show and are mandatory to attend.
Items to Bring
Please remember to have all your needed dance shoes, tights, nude body suits hair & make up needs packed neatly and brought with you to the theatre for every rehearsal and show. Shoes and tights need to be in new condition in order to present on stage.   Because space backstage is limited, please do not bring any extra items that are not needed for your performances and be mindful to bring a bag that will fit easily backstage.
Leave Valuables at Home
A reminder to not bring valuable items that could be lost. These are best left at home. :)
WATER, NUTRITION & SLEEP!!!!
Please remember to be well fueled & hydrate PRIOR to your rehearsals and shows. Sleep is soooo important for the growth and repair of your bodies.  These coming days are a time to put the cell phone away, and go to bed on time.  This includes the days leading up to your rehearsal or shows.  Adequate sleep, water, calories & protein from highly nutritious food are required for healthy dancers and to safely maintain the necessary energy output for performances. Sometimes when we get busy or excited in anticipation of a show, it can be easy to forget to fuel properly.  But it is of the utmost importance.  This also helps you to minimize the risk of injury and strain on your growing bodies.   Dancers who do not fuel properly are at higher risk of injury and may be replaced with their alternate for performances if it appears they are not fit to perform due to exhaustion, dehydration or otherwise. Your health and safety is paramount!
Only Water Permitted Backstage
Dancers are only permitted to bring a water bottle backstage.  Starbucks and other drinks are not permitted in the backstage area for costume safety reasons.
A note that this does not apply to adult volunteers or staff. ;)
Self Care Items
Every dancer is responsible to bring any self care items such as KT Tape, Sports rubs, pointe shoe supplies, etc that might be needed.  Please ensure you have these before arriving at the theatre.
Bring an Open Mind & Positive Attitude
A reminder that dance is a family affair and support is both given and received.   A positive attitude goes a long way and mutual respect for your peers, staff and volunteers is not only expected but mandatory.  If at any time you have questions, concerns or anxieties about anything, please bring it to one of the adults backstage and they will be happy to help you.
Clean Up Your Stuff / Costume & Prop Etiquette
A friendly reminder to keep your area clean, take your belongings and any garbage home with you (all of it) each day/night.  Please be respectful and mindful with the production props & costumes.  It takes a lot of time, finances and efforts by volunteers every season to keep you shining on stage and we need your help to keep the costumes clean, in working order and accounted for.  It's a group effort!
HAVE SO MUCH FUN!!!!
This is your time. Time to make memories to last a lifetime and share your passion with friends and family.   Have fun, trust the process and all your hard work this season. xox
